Enjoy the sounds of the season and more with the Diablo Valley College Guitar Ensemble. The ensemble consists of 15 students all playing classical (nylon string) guitars.
Selections for the evening will include two of J.S. Bach's most enduring masterpieces; an audience favorite entitled 'Blue Echo' by legendary country guitarist Chet Atkins; a big band arrangement of a Neal Hefti song called 'Lil' Darlin'; pieces by the Spanish composer Enrique Granados; and three contemporary short pieces by Los Angeles based composer, Kevin Love.
The seasonal selection this year is a Howard Blake piece called 'Walking in the Air'. It comes from a 1982 animated Christmas movie named 'The Snowman' that is still a Christmas favorite on British and Finnish television.
The Diablo Valley Guitar Ensemble has been under the direction of Rick Flores since 1999 and is one of the longest running guitar ensembles in the Bay Area. Through the rare medium of nearly twenty acoustic guitars, the ensemble performs a variety of classical, jazz and world music.
