Tuesday, February 6, 2018 – Tax Issues for Seniors – presented by Lynn Ballou, CFP®, Regional Director, EP Wealth Advisors, Lafayette

·         What are the tax issues in selling your current home?

·         What does “cost basis” mean and how does it relate to my financial life?

·         What might affect my taxes under the new tax laws for 2018?

·         What are the current gift tax laws and estate tax laws?

Lynn Ballou, CFP® is a Regional Director for EP Wealth Advisors. Prior to joining EP Wealth in January of 2016, Lynn founded Ballou Financial Group, Inc. in 1986, later merging her firm into Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors in 1998, and becoming managing partner. Under her guidance, Ballou Plum became a trusted financial advisory office in the East Bay, one that placed emphasis on an unparalleled level of service for every generation of its client base. She believes her accomplishments are measured by the milestones they help their clients achieve as well as the successful team of advisors she continues to grow and mentor. Particularly passionate about educating women, Lynn has spent the last 30+ years helping women unravel the financial complexities that accompany retirement, inherited wealth, loss of spouse, divorce and other transitional moments in life.

As a co-founder of EP Wealth’s innovative program “Investing in Women,” Lynn is especially proud of the work the firm is doing to elevate women in the firm, attract women to our profession, and attain prominence as a “go-to” firm for women and their families needing high-level comprehensive planning. An advocate for investor education, Lynn serves as the CFP Board of Standards Ambassador for the San Francisco Bay Area, a role in which she educates the public about the importance of financial planning by those most qualified to provide those services. Lynn has taught taxation and financial planning as an adjunct faculty member of the College for Financial Planning through JFK University.

She is also an active member of the Financial Planning Association. Lynn enjoys public speaking and has been a keynote speaker and panelist at a wide variety of conferences, including Financial Advisor Magazine’s annual “Invest in Women” conference and the YWCA’s “Young Women and Money” conference held annually in Oakland. She regularly provides expert commentary for on-line, local, and national media platforms and publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Kiplinger and U.S. News & World Report, and has appeared on CNBC. Locally she is known for her personal finance column in Lamorinda Weekly called “Lynn’s Top Five.” Having graduated with a degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles, Lynn continues to be an avid reader and can often be found with her nose in a book. She enjoys hiking with her dog, gardening, and day tripping in the Bay Area with husband, John. She also greatly enjoys spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Luna.
