As we approach our third birthday here at Lamorinda Village, we have wondered about the passing of time. It’s been a great three years building this organization and serving members in Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda. We've met lots of wonderful people, both seniors and those who care about them. From our members to volunteers to service providers, we are ever grateful for the community we're building and serving.

We look forward to spending quality time with you at our April 6th celebration. In recognition of our theme of “time”, we are thrilled to have Village member and volunteer leader, Dr. Larry Toy, present on this fascinating topic from the point of view of an astronomer.
“As Time Goes By - An Astronomer's View of Time”

Have you ever thought about…
-Why days and nights are getting longer?
-Why will solar eclipses become a thing of the past?
-How the Pope stole 10 days from the calendar?

Learn some of the answers to these and other simple and not so simple mysteries of the world beyond planet Earth.

Thank you to our Celestial Sponsor - Coldwell Banker Orinda (Patti Camras)

About Dr. Larry Toy:
Larry holds an A.B. from Harvard College, majoring in astronomy, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in astronomy (theoretical astrophysics).

For almost 30 years Larry was a professor of astronomy at Chabot College and received the first outstanding teacher award for the California Community Colleges in 1989, chosen from over 15,000 faculty in the state.  The last ten years of his career was spent as the founding President/CEO of the Foundation for California Community Colleges.  During that time, the FCCC grew from a staff of one, to the largest operating (non-endowed) foundation in higher education in the US.

Larry served on the Board of Governors of the California Community College System for seven years, including a term as president of the Board.  He also served on the California Council of Science and Technology for eight years and is a Fellow of the Council.  Larry was a founding member of the Chabot Space and Science Center Board and served there for 13 years, and was chair of the Architecture and Building Committee.  He was honored by the Harvard Club of San Francisco with its Distinguished Citizen Award in 1999.
