The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive opens the 2019-2020 WOW season with an overview of four fall exhibits. Divine Women, Divine Wisdom explores the feminine image and the female role in the south Asian and Himalayan region. The San Quentin Project: Nigel Poor and the Men of San Quentin State Prison features visual documents made during Poor’s collaboration with the men incarcerated at San Quentin as well as photographs from the prison’s own archive. Showcasing diverse works from BAMPFA’s collection that invoke strangeness and resonate with the spirit of Surrealism, Strange includes works from Asian, Europe, and the Americas made over the past 500 years. And Sylvia Fein / MATRIX 275 continues BAMPFA's series of MATRIX exhibitions of innovative contemporary artists with a survey of the Martinez-based Surrealist painter Sylvia Fein, who will be 100 years old at the time of the opening.
