Harley Farms is a restored 1910 dairy farm with 200 alpine goats on nine acres of pasture in Pescadero. The farm grew from six pet goats to today’s herd, featuring their delicious, critically-acclaimed cheese.
A full circle tour of the farm.
The dairy farm is the heart of our business, yet we are not simply dairy farmers. We collect all the water used in the dairy, so that the edible flower garden can be watered, and the cheesemakers can pick fresh petals to finish the edible flower chevre. We grow olallieberries in fields spread with composted goat manure, and make jam and jelly with the berries to sell in the farm shop. We bought the adjoining property with its barn and well and embarked on a nine-year project to build an irrigation pond that will keep our pasture green, protecting the creekside habitat. We hold exquisite wedding ceremonies by the creek, and parties, dinners and retreats in our barns. All of this protects the health and welfare of our staff and our animals and our dairy business. It makes us sustainable.
This is a very personal and in-depth perspective on running a small farm. Includes our Water District, weather station, arable fields, Secret Garden, bees and orchard, Upper Barn, and - of course - the goats. Adults only.
