May's Book Club selection is "The Last Island" by Adam Goodheart.
The Adaman Islands are located in the Indian Ocean between India and Thailand. 
In 1857 approximately ten tribes populated the island chain with
an estimated population of 5,000.  By 1931 the estimated population was 460.
Today only one tribe has survived on the remote island of North Sentinel.

As I read this book I am captured by the circumstances surrounding this island 
and its primitive tribal survivors.  The book is 256 pages in length.  Adam Goodheart is an historian, travel writer, and essayist.  He is the recipient of a Public Scholar Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as a Lowell Thomas Award from the Society of American Travel Writers.
